Philp Page, a lecturer in the Media Studies Department at UNCG, produced, funded, and filmed the short fiction film, “Sobriety” in 2024. He brought on UNCG Media Studies alumni Skyler Foy and Shalia Fuentes-Matthews as the main crew. This year, “Sobriety” was shown at the UrbanWorld Film Festival in New York, which is one of the few Academy Qualifying Film Festivals. This was a major achievement for Page’s filmmaking career.

After the festival, Page shared, “The Urbanworld Film Festival was a great experience, shared the room with Tina Knowles (Beyonce’s mother), Malik Yoba, and other talent. I attended the Directors Guild of America luncheon and networked with Mary Hatch, an Assistant Executive Director of DGA. Also networked with other directors and guild members…”

Changhee Chun, Professor and Department Head of Media Studies, also showed his recent documentary, “Mobility Rights (2024, 4K, 20 min.),” at several festivals during the Fall 2025 semester. These included the Activists Without Borders Film Festival in Reading, UK; Millersville University Disability Film Festival in Pennsylvania; Jackson Documentary Festival in Tennessee; the 20th Calgary Justice Film Festival in Canada; and the Madrid Flakes Film Festival in Spain. The film received the Honorary Award for Efforts in Social Filmmaking at the Activists Without Borders Film Festival.

“Mobility Rights” looks at the struggles faced by disabled people in South Korea. The film shows how their efforts are finally being recognized after years of denied rights. By following their daily lives, the film helps viewers connect with their fight for equality and think about their own search for happiness. It also points out the challenges they face from the public, even in a society that values community.
